Its 7th edition will be awarded during the Prize-giving ceremony which will take place in Cheongju City, Republic of Korea, on 1st October 2018. In April 2004 UNESCO’s Executive Board approved the establishment of the UNESCO/Jikji Memory of the World Prize as a means of promoting the Memory of the World Programme and commemorating the inscription of the "Buljo jikji simche yojeol”, commonly known as the Jikji. Inscribed on the Memory of the World Register in 2001, the Jikji is considered to be the oldest known book of moveable metal print in the world. The US$ 30,000 Prize is awarded every two years to individuals, institutions, other entities or Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that have made significant contributions to the preservation and accessibility of documentary heritage.
